Musals

Musal Anatomy

Musal

[mew-zull]

Plural: Musals

Young: Pup

Group: Pod

Musals are the most common pet on Craven! These little guys are scattered all over the islands, being found in most households.

Looks & Anatomy

Since Musals have no elemental connection and are completely domestic, their colors are fairly unpredictable. More natural and desaturated coats seem to be the norm, but it isn’t too uncommon to see a brightly colored pup walking around!

These pets can come in many different shapes and sizes, but there are a few traits that seem to stick throughout around. Musals are very chubby, with a layer of flexible belly scales and stubby clawed legs. A row of rounded spines trail from their forehead to the tip of their tail, which is often too heavy for them to raise and instead drags on the ground.

Their eyes are very sensitive to light, resulting in them staying closed most of the time and only opening when absolutely necessary. They also have a short forked tongue held by a jagged mouth that allows them to bite through most foods to appease their endless appetite. Two false ears are often found on top of their heads, mostly serving for aesthetic purposes by their original breeders.

Behavior & Diet

Musals are some of the friendliest critters around! They are an entirely domestic species, save for the odd stray, and are quite accustomed to Astrolytes because of it. They do seem to have distinct personalities, but are generally affectionate to anyone nearby and act more like a lap pet than a guard. With a food-driven mindset, it isn’t uncommon to see one gnawing on anything within their reach in hopes of a treat.

They can learn tricks and commands fairly easily with a bit of work and an incentive, and typically enjoy social environments. Musals are very excitable creatures, and love to play with their owners / one another, making them great pets for energetic lavalings and adults alike. Their false ears begin to wiggle back and forth when excited, and they can become quite agile for their build when given something to chase.

They regularly make a variety of sounds indicating different emotions, but they most often chirp or click! Some musals will "speak" back to lytes talking at them with their own noises or create low clicks very quickly to achieve a rumbling effect.

A musal's diet can be absolutely anything. If they can get they’re mouth around it, they’re going to at least try and eat it. They do seem to have a preference towards sweets and fruits, though.

Reproduction & Offspring

Musals are able to reproduce quite quickly if desired, and usually put out clutches of 1-5 eggs per breeding. They don’t usually mate for life, though every case is different.

Baby musals are referred to as pups, and are about half the size of the average adult! The anatomy for them is pretty much the same, just sized down to account for how little they’ve grown. Their tails are just short enough for them to be able to be raised, but it tends to knock the pup off balance and send them tumbling backwards if they lean over too much.
