Florya

Sincerity - Refuge - Life

Florya Landscape WIP

Florya is the fourth island down from the top, and it is a smaller land mass covered in plantlife!

Citizens have a focus on agriculture and wildlife, often setting up establishments more focused on or aligned with nature and its uses.

Districts

The island of Florya is split into four districts: Agricultural, Residential, Market, and Wilderness.

Agricultural District

This district is where many of the farms and such can be found on the island, and is one of the few sections that isn’t completely overgrown. Food and other natural resources are grown here and are shipped to the Market District to either be sold directly to Floryans or be traded away to other islands.

Residential District

Most Floryan ‘lytes live in this district, though it’s not much more than a cluster of small houses and burrows. There are a few more defined roads and paths that make getting around the area easier, but they’re mostly just matted down plants / dirt from years of Astrolytes and other creatures walking across them. There are a few convenience store-type establishments scattered throughout the district for basic needs, but nothing too fancy is really around until the Market District begins. Many lamperies are situated in this district as well. It’s not uncommon for Floryans to live elsewhere on the island, but this is the designated district for it

Market District

This district is what surrounds the capital city, Cedar Plaza. Most stores and entertainment are located here, and it’s nearly always bustling with ‘lytes of all shapes and sizes. The plaza is much less dense plant-wise compared to the Residential and Wilderness Districts, though buildings are still often seen with vine-covered walls and sprouts making their way through the floors. It’s still quite rural compared to other islands, but it does have the most advanced architecture on Florya.

Wilderness District

The final district, this area categorizes everything else — the forests, jungles, & otherwise untamed landscape that covers the rest of the island is included under it. It’s more unusual to see ‘lytes living out here, but very common to spot a wide range of wildlife and plantlife thriving in the lush terrain.

Cedar Plaza is the capital city of Florya, split into two parts; the aboveground Upper Plaza and the underground Lower Plaza. It lies at the heart of the Market District and serves as the main hub of activity, drawing lytes from all corners of the overgrown island.

The Upper Plaza hosts many of the more developed businesses and entertainments of Florya, as many entrepreneurs use its constant bustle of lytes to keep their businesses afloat. With cobblestone paths and even some brick buildings, the city is rather developed compared to other areas. The wildlife is used to its full potential in terms of taking advantage of the space, featuring many establishments built up in treehouse-esque arrangements or dug into the ground with a flat entrance aboveground.

The Lower Plaza is home to more important or secluded buildings and is generally less busy. Constructed deeper underground, the city half functions more as a series of tunnels surrounding a larger open cavern held together with the roots of the plantlife above. Hospitals, lamperies, important museums, and official buildings are mostly located in underground areas, the most notable of which possibly being Setchi and June’s offices residing within the lowest cavern of the Lower Plaza. These areas are more heavily observed, and they often don’t let any lyte wander near the offices without turning them away.

The Warren

The Warren is the largest lampery in Florya, located both in the Upper and Lower halves of Cedar Plaza. It is a massive building, with multiple entrances ranging from treehouse and ground level openings to dedicated tunnels and the main cavern of the Lower Plaza. Despite its overall size, larger lytes and especially Dracolytes may be strapped for space in the Warren’s smaller rooms meant for Floryan lytes.

It is mainly built out of twisting wood and vines, being created by an Expert Growth magician near the beginning of the city’s construction and gradually added to over the years. The rooms are scattered and unorganized, connected by winding tunnels of hallways, though they are all designed to be cozy and comforting. Charmed lanterns are stationed

throughout the rooms and hallways, especially prevalent in the underground sections that don't receive sunlight through their windows. Beds are either structured out of magically warped wood, or are crafted from soft plants and vines (or some mixture of both!). The roof and many aboveground windows are made from translucent petals that allow sunlight to fall through during the day.

The place is currently run by resident caretakers Jade and Curli and serves as a very welcoming place to stay for lytes of all ages. While they mostly have a focus on taking in lavalings with nowhere else to stay, it isn’t uncommon to see older lytes stopping by for a stay or just volunteering to help the two out. They are big on adaptability in their lampery, so frequent rearrangements of rooms and the lobby, as well as field trips out to different parts of the island for adventurous lavalings are nearly routine.
